Light Rail - South Hills T Extension to Century III

The Citizens’ Plan proposes a light rail extension between South Hills Village and Century III Mall, utilizing the Wheeling & Lake Erie right-of-way. In such a scenario, Century III Mall would have a multi-modal transit center that would benefit not only those living near the line, but also commuters who would park there and take transit into the employment centers of downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland. Congestion and air pollution would be reduced along State Route 51 and in the City of Pittsburgh. This project could include a possible extension to Clairton.

Those interested in promoting an extension to the South Hills T should build community interest in the project and collaboratively pursue funding to study the concept in greater detail. They should work with the Port Authority of Allegheny County, and contact Allegheny County SPC Commissioners.
